MotorDriver v1

This motor driver board has been made which is based on the A3953 Motor Driver IC, which can drive up to 1.2A at up to 50V. All the parts on the board have been chosen such that it retains this ability. The only thing that it does not retain is the motor supply voltage - which is limited to 16V by the decoupling capacitors.

It is 5V compatible, and can be driven from an Arduino. It has the following pins:

  • VCC - 5V logic level
  • GND - ground
  • ENABLE - enables the motor
  • PHASE - selects the direction (0 for forward 1 for backwards)
  • BRAKE - brakes the motor.
  • VCC Load - the supply for the motor (9.6V in our case)
  • GND Load - the ground for the battery (note that this is connected to logic ground too)

And the following outputs

  • Motor A
  • Motor B

There is a solder jumper marked MODE, which if bridged will put the A3953 into slow-decay current limitng mode. See the datasheet for information about this.
